The Children's Garden

The Wildflower Meadow

In an attempt to help arrest the dramatic decline of pollinataors, especially bees, monarch butterfleis and humming birds, St. Gregory's has set aside a swath of property for a wild flower meadow.

The first year has seen a few wildflowers emerge, and we have planted two species of milkweed, the only plant which monarch catepillars consume.  We have also planted some wildflower seeds which should come up next season. In our Horticultural Therapy Garden, which adjoins the meadow, we plan to make an official monarch way station. This is a nationwide organization dedicated to monarch butterfly survival.
